Mitsuki is singing to herself until she is interrupted by her grandmother demanding that she stop. Soon Dr Wakaouji arrives for Mitsuki's usual check up. We learn that Mitsuki currently has cancer of the throat, which makes singing and talking very painful. Dr Wakaouji tells Mitsuki that she would need an operation to remove the cancerous cells in order to live. However Mitsuki explains that she would rather die than lose her voice, which is a consequence that main result from the operation.

Quickly, Mitsuki pulls out an invitation from a record company currently in search for a new female singer. She tells her doctor that she would like to attend and needs his help to leave the house, however concerned for her health he refuses to help.

The next morning Mitsuki wakes up from a dream about her life long friend and promise, Eichi. The dream tells us that when Mitsuki was a little girl she met an older boy named Eichi who took care of her. However a few years ago he left Japan in order to peruse his own dream. Due to this, Mitsuki is determined to become a famous singer in order to one day make contact with Eichi once again.

She gathers her confidence and begs her over-protective grandmother to allow her to attend the audition. As expected, her grandmother declines and orders Mitsuki not to leave the house at all. Disappointed, Mitsuki leaves for her room.

While in her room plotting other ways of escaping to the audition, she suddenly sees a strange man (Takuto) appear from the wall. Following him in another female (Meroko). The two argue until Mitsuki comments on how cute Meroko's rabbit ears are. The pair are shocked that Mitsuki can see them. Without any other choice, they introduce themselves as, "Spring Onion Ramen", naturally leaving Mitsuki in stitches. The pair tell Mitsuki that they are the Gods of Death, and accidentally blurt out that she only has one year left to live.

Mitsuki is stunned. As Takuto and Meroko talk between themselves Mitsuki instantly escape the house, more determined than ever to attend the audition. After a lot of running around, Takuto and Meroko are finally about to trick Mitsuki to re-capture her. Near tears, Mitsuki stops them and explains the reason she must attend the audition. She tells them that with only one year left to live, she will take any chance that comes her way.

Touched, Takuto gives in much to Meroko's disapproval. He creates a pill made from his own blood and tells Mitsuki to swallow it. After she does, a strange sensation comes over her and she is all of a sudden transformed into a sixteen-year-old girl. Thrilled, Mitsuki hugs Takuto in return, again making Meroko very jealous. After he dyes her hair blond, Mitsuki leaves for the audition.

Meroko demands to know why Takuto was so obliging to Mitsuki, and he explains that when it is Mitsuki's time to die, she will be more willing to come with them if she has lived a happy and fulfilling life. In order to ensure that Mitsuki does not lose, Takuto transforms into one of the judges for the audition.

In the audition hall, Mitsuki is surprised to see so many beautiful girls. She condemns how simple she looks compared to everyone else. Soon, Mitsuki meets one of the other contestants who instantly jealous of Mitsuki's beauty. To disappoint her, the girl tells Mitsuki that someone as already been selected and that there is no point in continuing the audition. Disappointed, Mitsuki wonders if her efforts to make it here were all in vain.

Luckily, soon Mitsuki's number is called out by the judges. Once in the performing room she is asked to sing. Mitsuki, subconsciously still believing she is in her old body sings very softly so she does not hurt her throat. After being told to sing louder, she realises that in this new body she can sing as loud as she wants, without causing herself any pain. Excited, Mitsuki sings as best she can. As she sings she thinks only of Eichi, as we are given glimpses of what the current Eichi looks like.

After the song, the judges are in awe by Mitsuki's voice and immediately accept her on the spot. Mitsuki is naturally surprised, but delighted.

Back in the audition room, Mitsuki is approached yet again by the previous girl who is a little annoyed that Mitsuki made it in. She then tells Mitsuki that she was only chosen based on looks, not on talent.
